The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) has successfully concluded the modernization of Terminal E at Boston Logan International Airport. This endeavor involved the addition of four new gates in Terminal E, the airport’s dedicated international terminal, accompanied by essential facilities to cater to heightened operational demands and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.
Beyond the freshly established security checkpoint, travelers will be greeted by a spacious area boasting lofty ceilings and abundant natural light, housing a variety of new concessions, and departure lounges, and granting access to newly introduced airline clubs on the fourth level.
This ambitious project encompassed the construction of approximately 390,000 square feet and a comprehensive renovation of the existing Terminal E structure, resulting in a seamlessly unified building.
At Logan Airport Taxicab, we have closely followed this development as it directly impacts our travel services. Terminal renovations often affect our curb-side drop facility and changes in pick-up points for inbound customers at Boston Logan International Airport. We are glad that it is over finally and now offers more facilities for domestic and international tourists.
Despite all these efforts, Boston Airport could only manage an improvement of one position in the JD Power Ranking. Ref: Marginal JD Power Ranking Gains Despite Logan Airport’s Improvement Effort
Massport Board Chair Patricia Jacobs emphasized, “The modernization of Terminal E underscores Massport’s firm commitment to bolster our role as an economic catalyst, fostering connections between the people and businesses of New England and the global community. These enhancements at Logan Airport are dedicated to providing travelers with a more efficient and enjoyable experience, both now and in the future.”
Key aspects of the project encompass:
- Implementation of cutting-edge TSA security checkpoints, boasting seven lanes.
- Expansion of the arrivals level curb.
- Enlargement of the ticketing area.
- The addition of over 100,000 square feet of contemporary hold room and concession space.
- Augmentation of the outbound baggage handling system and baggage claim capacity.
- Introduction of advanced amenities and diverse seating options to elevate the overall passenger experience.
In response to the diverse needs of passengers, this modernization project has introduced a range of amenities on the departures level, including a mothers’ room and a sensory room. The inclusion of a sensory room places Boston Logan Airport among the select few major U.S. airports that offer this unique experience to passengers of all ages.
This space features multiple interactive stations focused on balance, light therapy, and cognitive/memory enhancement. It even includes a room designed to simulate an airplane cabin, aiding passengers in familiarizing themselves with the flying experience. This initiative aligns with Massport’s ongoing commitment to establishing more inclusive and accommodating spaces for all travelers.
Furthermore, travelers will gain access to a variety of fresh dining choices, featuring both sit-down restaurants and convenient grab-and-go options. Simultaneously, the enhanced security checkpoint will incorporate seven new Analogic Computed Tomography (CT) lanes, allowing passengers to keep their laptops and other electronic devices in their carry-on bags while undergoing screening.
