This year marks a significant change as Raffles Boston, its first U.S. property, opens its doors. According to Omer Acar, the CEO of Raffles and Orient Express, this milestone will set the stage for their plans to move Raffles’ headquarters to New York this summer. Acar expressed that Boston is an excellent starting point for Raffles in the United States, highlighting its status as a thriving cultural hub and a prominent center for education worldwide.
“The opening in Boston will undoubtedly elevate our overall brand awareness,” stated Acar. He expressed the brand’s anticipation of exploring additional opportunities, specifically mentioning their interest in iconic cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hawaii, and Miami. Raffles has long awaited its expansion into the American market, which holds a special place on its agenda.
The brand can trace its origins back to 1887 when the iconic Raffles Hotel Singapore first opened its doors. In 2016, Raffles joined the Accor group after FHRI Holdings was acquired by the hospitality giant. Since then, Raffles has experienced steady growth, establishing its presence in various destinations like the Maldives, Bali, Dubai, Qatar, Udaipur (India), and Shenzhen (China) in recent years.
Currently, Raffles operates 18 properties across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Furthermore, the highly anticipated Raffles London at The OWO is set to make its debut in the upcoming months, adding to the brand’s portfolio. However, the United States has long been a desired destination for Raffles, firmly planted on their expansion wish list.
“The U.S. presents a well-established market, characterized by fully developed city centers and distinct destinations, many of which pose significant barriers to entry,” Acar remarked. “Moreover, only a limited number of places can truly provide the exceptional service and experience synonymous with Raffles.”
The Raffles Boston, situated at the intersection of Trinity Place and Stuart Street within a 35-story high-rise, will feature 147 rooms, 146 residences, and an array of amenities such as an indoor lap pool, spa, and fitness center.
While sharing certain elements with its sister properties, such as the iconic Long Bar, the Writers Bar, and personalized butler service, Raffles Boston intends to infuse its own distinctive touch into the Raffles experience, as stated by General Manager Oliver Dudler.
Renowned chef George Mendes will join as the overseer of the culinary program at Raffles Boston, with the highlight being the Portuguese-inspired signature restaurant, Amar, located on the 17th floor.
The 17th floor will also house Raffles Boston’s own rendition of the iconic Long Bar, serving New England-style cuisine, while a hidden speakeasy awaits on the 18th floor. In addition to the Writers Bar, the hotel will feature a ground-floor café and another dining concept on the second floor.
“All the elements are interconnected,” Dudler explained. “You can start with a cocktail at the Long Bar, attend an event, indulge in dinner at Amar, and later unwind at the speakeasy—without ever needing to leave.”
However, Raffles Boston aims to provide an open and inviting atmosphere, contrary to secluding guests from the outside world. The property’s leadership strives to become a beloved destination for Boston locals.
“Our vision is to become the preferred hotel for Bostonians,” stated Simon Rodrigues, Director of Sales and Marketing for Raffles Boston. “We want our restaurants and bars to be their cherished gathering spaces.”
Although the opening date for Raffles Boston has yet to be announced, bookings are already available for stays beginning in September. The booking window will extend further once an official debut is confirmed.
